  • Brake Advice needed

My Daughter has a 2001 Saturn SC1 [Less than 140000kms

I drove car the other day and felt that Brake Pedal had too long of a travel.

I took to my Mechanic who examined. Drums in rear and front disks

One Rear wheel cylinder had a very small seep so we replaced both rear cylinders

Front calipers dismantled lubricated and reassembled

After bleeding brakes still had the long pedal travel

I did a panic stop etc brakes are working fine except pedal travel

    Any thoughts, suggestions

Daughter is on limited Budget so want to keep costs reasonable

adjust the rear brakes, may have to take a scim off the lip of the brake drums for the ridge

Not sure if the push rod is adjustable on that model, i will check on mitchel and let you know!

Nope nothing special, no push rod adjustment for the master
and all it says is set to .020 smaller then drum,
so if pads and shoes aren't separating, I would set the drums to slight drag, change the fluid (10 years old)
Dose the pedal get better if you click the park brake up a couple of notches?

Also look at the drums to see if they are tapered if they are the shoes have to flex to make full contact and will increase peddle travel
I have also seen ware the front pads seize in to the saddle and cause a bad pedal, as they have to flex in the middle to work

But for sure Adjust and bleed first
