  • Scrutineers Available

As we get closer to the season I will bump this back up but put it in the back of your mind. If all goes well we will be able to take the cars up north starting January 8.

We will have a team of Scrutineers available Saturday January 8 from noon to 4pm and on Sunday January 9 from noon to 3pm. So come early, come often and we can get you through. You could bribe them with Timmies coffee. They will take the coffee but will look extra hard at your racer.

This was brought up at the Kinsmen meeting last night and the idea was well recieved.

Will you need Scrutineer reps from all clubs involved?

If they would like to help out sure but this is not a requirement. We do however need as many from all the clubs the first Saturday morning.

What things in particular do the scrutineers look at?
Also, how much body damage is considered "too much"?
Right now, someone somewhere is practicing, and when you face him, he will beat you.

If I can see your passenger seat from the outside of the car, then it is too much. If your fenders flap in a light breeze, then it is too much.

Take a look a the rule book and that's what Scrutineers look for. Safety equipment is the first and foremost. We will check the seat belts for fraying and damage. We will make sure your windsield is not smashed. We will make sure your brake light and running light will work. We will make sure you have floor boards. The list goes on and on.

As the rule states the car must look original. No rust buckets.

Regarding windshields: how smashed is 'smashed'? Is a spider crack inhabiting a quarter of the windshield considered 'smashed'?

As mentioned in the drivers meeting that you missed a voided windshield has to have a crack right through it and has to be more than 7 inches long. If we can feel the crack from both sides then it is not legal.

              AND DON'T TAPE THE CRACK!!!

              OK?

I know windshields are worth more than your car but it is a safety thing also. How much is you eyesight worth? Let along body parts.

Well, the rust isn't bad. But except for the doors, every single body panel has large dents, and/or is missing pieces of bodywork. The only reason the doors are okay, is because they've been replaced. And there's alot of poorly done and damaged body work. After 6 years as a budget rally car, this is all to be expected.
The windshield is fine. There is a CARS legal rollcage, the lights/brakes/steering/suspension/etc all work great. No holes in the floor. Seats are firmly attached. The 5-point harness are brand new. It passed (a rather lax) scrutineering at the Rallycross events in Bancroft this year.
I'm just concerned that the body won't be up to par.

Dents are fine. The trim peices have to be removed. The lights have to come out. If the fenders are rusted right out, I suggest tinning them. The rest of the car sounds bonus.

Where abouts are you in Brampton? I could drop by and let you know what to do or if it will pass. PM me or send directly to crusher45@powergate.ca.

                      Wedge,

If you car looked like this I would have a hard time passing it.

The metal should be popped riveted on and not strapped on. Remember no sharp edges.

Damn.....that was $500 I didn't want to spend. Damn again.....

Well, better to fix it now than show up and not be allowed to race.

                          :-)
