  • Who is thinking about Streets?

    Assuming the rules don't change....

Anyone else pondering the use of street tires next year? That 2 class credit seems pretty tempting to me. After seeing Salmaan do exceptionally well in T1 on street tires that are far from optimized, it has me thinking how I'd do in GT4 with some suspension bits and NT05s.

That said...I want to go fast on R6s! Leaves me a bit perplexed.

Anyone else in the same boat?

You know that Will and I had a good season on streets in GT2. They can offer an exciting level of grip when optimized, and give excellent value in terms of wear. They are not perfect though, their temperature stability is the most obvious downfall.

....but do you really want to drop classes? Go faster!
I'm hoping to go faster in a higher class in 2010.

If the rules stay the same, it is tempting. That would drop me from T1 to T3. I am, however, hooked on going fast (well, as fast as my NX is able to go!). If I can afford to run ubers next summer I'll be doing that. Yeah, Hankooks!

Just doing some quick research, good street tires are just as expensive as R888 or NT01. So the only advantage they have is they might last a little longer.

Re: Who is thinking about Streets?

I am definitely looking at streets. With my lightweight CRX, I can make it even lighter and still drop down to T1. I would imagine streets would last and last on my car making them a very favourable choice.

It all depends on how available RA1's will be next year, and what the price difference is.

See Will's post in the street tire thread.
We ran a full season with 2 drivers, plus 3-4 lapping days on one set of 205/50/15 Bridgestone RE-11. They are still showing the full tread pattern and I'd expect another half season of similar use.
So for us, they did last longer.

Where in the rules does it say that you can't?

You can trailer in a street car if you want.

Hopefully RA1's become widely available again. I wasn't sold on them when I first ran a set of them last year (full tread depth, on my ~3500 lb Camaro) but when I put them on the '93 this year (worn down to almost full slick, and on the ~3000 lb Camaro) I was quite impressed with how well they worked .

I am thinking about a full set of streets nest year since I need a new set of tires..it would drop my car down into SGT3 ..which I think it would be competitive in

And since I am running some silly sizes 315 rear and 275 up front...and silly aero...the car might almost be as quick as with some R's

                    might be a neat test

If I'm not just doing lapping days and I choose to hit a solosprint event or two, my ugly del sol will be on Azinis. The car is only 2100 pounds, so they should hold up for us... maybe i can trim some more weight out. The car will be used by a new and a VERY new driver next year, too so they might not even last for us.

Lets just hope that Krispy doesn't decide to run street tires as well, 'cause then SGT3 is fubar'd!!
