  • It Lives!!!

WOW -Finally - After working, headaches and more work in the last 4 weeks....MY (not Scott's ) 240 actually ran down the road under its own power last night!. It needs a final oil change today but all things seem like its a go to bring out to DDT for Saturday. Thanks again to Scott for lending me his 240 (AGAIN this year, "Ford hangs head in disbelief, wonders if going to May lapping day at MIR next year should be forbidden").But finally I get to drive my own car on Saturday I Cant wait!! :Now the funny part - with parts changes required to fix - I'm only 0.9 pips into my class, GT3. Wonder if that's enough pip room for a turbo??

      err...a really REALLY big one
(Kidding, I think a turbo on a non turbo car is something like 13 pips and I have 4.1 to play with in GT3 now)

Wow, I was going to say "It's alive" in my post. I feel your pain Ford. It seems like we are on similiar paths:

After this happened at MIR on May 28th
        http://www.vimeo.com/12131122

I pulled the engine and found massive amounts of shrapnel
The con rod went first in cylinder one and killed the entire motor: block damaged, crank messed up, heads are damaged and even the cam has runout.

One 18hr nonstop drive to Connecticut for a long block salvage motor, a steep learning curve (only other engine I've pulled was my gokart motor), I hope to be at event 5 tomorrow.

Sad Update: did the oil change, started it up....only 11 pounds pressure now??? (was 20 to 60/70). Something else has thrown a wrench into it . Tried a new different filter, checking relief valve etc...aint gonna work. Guess I can use the long break until event 6 to figure it out...

what was done to the engine? did you prime the engine first? 11 pounds is low.

Was that a third to second shift at WOT? if so I know exactly how that feels although mine didn't do as much damage(bent a couple valves Z24 2.4L) and I was able to drive from Cayuga- home. I also did mine on what would have been my first timed run of the day and right in front of everybody on the front straight.

                i saw that too.
i love my old car and its humongous shift throw. thats nearly impossible for me to do, as the distance sideways i have to go for 2nd is about 2 inches. also, with my second gear synchro being worn out, it just wont go into second at that speed.

We had the head off the engine, fixed 2 bent valves and had to replace the flywheel (damage done on MIR on May 28 when I shifted 3 down to 2 by accident at about 7000 rpm). Re-installed the engine in the car and fired it up. Double checked things then took it out Thursday nite for a test drive. It ran awesome and had oil pressure of 20lbs at idle and up to 60 or 70 when revving high. Then at the end of the test drive the oil pressure dropped to 20lbs and wouldn't go any higher. So we changed the filter and bingo, it was good again. So we thought another oil change today and we're golden. Started it up to warm the oil before the change and it had good pressure, 60Lbs cold. Changed the oil and then no pressure (yes, we remembered to put the new oil in ). Changed the filter again, then it would work up to 11Lbs. Checked what we could externally and the pressure relief valve...couldn't find anything. Cant run it like that.

Yea, 3-2 shift sucks dont it? Bent valves, yep (see above). First timed run of the day? Ouch. At least mine was at the end of the day. And dont worry, people have short memories Lol.
