  • Chump Car support

If you're out near Mosport on Saturday or Sunday, stop in and cheer John D and I on. I'm on his ChumpCar team, driving the #998 Miata, in two 7 hour endurance races. What a great way to spend Thanksgiving weekend!

Matt, I'll look forward to seeing you there!

Brian, I knew you were planning on being there. Saw Joe (RPM) earlier this week as we picked up a parts Miata and he said you and your brother would be there in a Probe. Should be fun times!

              Where can I buy a 325i worth $500 buck?

Next year chumpcar is moving away from the $500 rule to one where they set what the car is worth.

                  Re: Chump Car support

We had paid $800 for the car, a decent 89 that had some rear suspension damage. But the E30 325 is on the Chumpcar AIV list, meaning that the organizers feel there are enough $500 examples around that documentation isn't required. I believe that for 2014 they are going to assign average internet values for a lot more cars, which makes it easier for people here in the rust belt who typically have to pay closer to $1000 to get anything worth using as a starting point.

                        Re: Chump Car support

Sorry folks, but I didn't have access to post anything on the weekend. Because my arms are sore from driving, here's a copy of the post I just put on FaceBook.

Had an amazing weekend driving in CHUMPCAR World Series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Saturday was picture perfect. Sunday was miserably wet. After the first seven hours we were in eighth place. Both days I was out and driving the second stint of one hour and forty minutes. The track was incredibly greasy in the almost constant rain Sunday and the Miata would go sideways accelerating out of corners in fourth gear (let alone second). Several cars came off the track on flat beds. Ours didn't, but it was retired early Sunday afternoon. I applaud John Dattomo for preparing an amazing car. He is a wonderful team leader and a great friend. John, Pat, and Ralph - thank you for sharing the car with me. For my first time in true wheel to wheel racing you guys were incredibly supportive. "No Budget Racing" fielded two cars - the first car was a Civic and it placed third after two days. Ron, Afshin, Serge and Steve - Well Done! Incredible driving.

Great pics there, thanks for sharing.

We had a decent day on Saturday, finished mid-pack with no car issues, just dreadfully slow up the back straight. Sunday I stayed home for family dinner, but got the news that our car found a wall in the rain.

Very entertaining. Saw a lot of 'threading the needle' going into 8, particularly on Sunday with slick conditions. A few stylish 180's, 360's, 720's.

Heading to the track on Sunday on Myrtle rd. got a little slippery too.
