Can we have an idea of topics for discussion at the competitors' meeting and ideas of where the OTAO and CCC are headed?

    Personally, I have 3 topics.

    1) Do we need to revisit BT Pax?
    2) Do we have any thoughts of the new rules re high ethanol fuels and the extra tuning PIPs ?
    3) The new FL5 Civic Type R has OEM claimed HP of 9 more than the FK8 (2017 to 2021) and early dynos seem to support this. Meanwhile the FK8 is rated in the CCDB at 330 hp or 24 more than claimed OEM. Any idea of how to classify the new car?

I am sure there are other topics that competitor would like to bring up and it may well be worth considering these topics prior to the meeting.

      Hi Dave,

Unfortunately the CCC chair Barry Greenaway will be travelling for work and won't be able to attend so I'll be running the competitors meeting in his stead.

That said, the meeting items so far are as follows (on top of what you have listed):

      1) Do we need to revisit BT Pax?
      2) Do we have any thoughts of the new rules re high ethanol fuels and the extra tuning PIPs ?
      3) The new FL5 Civic Type R has OEM claimed HP of 9 more than the FK8 (2017 to 2021) and early dynos seem to support this. Meanwhile the FK8 is rated in the CCDB at 330 hp or 24 more than claimed OEM. Any idea of how to classify the new car?
      4) Competitors continue to have issues with distinguishing between Coilovers, vs Shocks and/or Springs/Lowering. Now, they need to check both Shocks (5.1.B.4) and Springs/Lowering (5.1.B.5) when they have coilovers, but often they check one or the other (not both). Since very few competitors have only shock mods or only spring mods, suggest we have 3 rules; 1. Coilovers for 6 sPIPs, 2. Shocks only for 2 sPIPs, 3. Springs/lowering only for 4 sPIPs.
      5) 1994 to 2001 Honda Civic and CRX might a closer look at the reclassing. Three proposals provided:
      a. Increase HI for these two cars from 45 to 50. Total PI for the Civic would increase to 50.1 in next higher class.
      b. The stock suspension uses locating radius rods with rubber bushings. To minimize wheel hop, under acceleration, competitors have been using Performance FWD Traction bars with spherical bearings, which, using the catch all suspension mod rule, 5.1.10 is 1 sPIP. Since performance traction bars improve traction at corner apex and decrease wheel hop under straight line acceleration, we could have a new rule for Traction bars with a value of 1 sPIP. This would move the Honda Civic to the next higher class with PI of 50.1.
      c. Check engine for undisclosed mods.
      6) Our Roll over protection rules are confusing and provide a 1 bPIP advantage for convertibles with a roll cage vs a roll bar. The Roll Cage rule (5.1.C.1) is -2 bPIPs for either sedans or convertibles. The Roll Bar rule (5.1.C.2) is -1 bPIP for sedans, but convertibles are calculated by adding 60 lbs to the convertible’s base curb weight in ccdb, rather than using the -1 bPIP. A convertible with a roll cage claims the -2 bPIPs for 5.1.C.1, but also receives the 60 lbs advantage that is built into convertible’s base curb weight in ccdb. Also, some competitors are confused by the difference in calculation methods. Suggest we remove the 60 lbs from all convertible curb weights in ccdb and apply the Roll Bar rule 5.1.C.2 to convertibles for -1 bPIP, the same as sedans.
      7) Suggest we clarify wording of Rule 5.1.D Curb Weight Option to: "Any competitor whose vehicle is equipped with a roll cage/roll bar meeting OTA Event Regulations, (as defined in Sections 1.3 and 1.4) may opt to provide the Car Classification Committee with ‘race trim’ curb weight data with photo for classification purposes." and "Any car with an engine or transmission swap (as defined in Section 5.0.G) may provide a “race trim” curb weight. (rather than required, since swapped engine or transmission are bigger and heavier than original)."
      8) 2023 will be the 20th year we will use the ccdb tool for classification. The classification portion of the ccdb tool works well, but there are a few areas, that would improve competitor friendliness and usability. Suggest we replace CCDB.
      9) A mod that seems to be becoming more popular is changes to the steering ratio. This mod is being done in a number of way; from new internals in the rack, to an in-line on the steering column quicking device, to changes to the steering arm on the spindle. If is this mod is part of the 5.1.10 rule then this needs to be clarified as such.

      Thanks.
