Re: Brake Fluid... Which one are you using?

I ran the Ford DOT 3 550'F this weekend out of necessity and was impressed. I never once had a hint of pressure drop in the pedal, despite running the brakes on the ragged edge of sticker Hoosiers all weekend. And arresting 3500lbs of steel for Krispy-happy corners.

That being said, there were signs of near-boiling at the reservoir, which would suggest that I may be in trouble at the DDT if I use this fluid since the average speeds will be lower and the braking zones more frequent.

The factory Ford rotors on the 06 GT seem to do an admirable job of venting. Despite a relentless beating the rotors had a PERFECT transfer layer all weekend and maintained a uniform colouring. And the EBFD on the new car works exceptionally well (all four calipers were smoking on the first break-in session!).

          Bump!

Where are you guys getting your RBF600 or Superblue? Any idea how much fluid I'll need to do a 100% flush?

Trac Racing has both in stock and racer pricing on both products.

You will need a little more than 1 litre to do a full flush.

email me if you need some!!

I won some Elf fluid at a BMW event in Mt. Tremblant and it worked fine. Not sure of which Elf fluid it was now, but I thought it said 600 somewhere on the bottle.

After RBF600, Smurf Blue, and Elf, I like RBF600 the best because of the peddle feel. That stuff just doesn't compress. It's a little harder to bleed... tap the caliper gently with a mallet while bleeding to break any bubbles free if you've had the system open. If it's just a flush and fill, no problem.

I'm planning on trying that this year, I currently have the Elf Frelub 650 in my car. Pete@Marcor can hook you up with ELF products when you're in a hurry, I'm going to be trying to keep a supply on hand at the track in case anyone wishes to purchase there.

                            Shawn,

The convenience of not having to do this after every event alone is worth the extra initial cost of the proper racing fluids (pick whichever one you like - most seem to produce similar results). Factoring in that I can run an entire season on one fill of fluid, I'm saving money, time AND producing less waste...

Gonna try Castrol LMA this year.

Then again, it's a thousand-pound car. I'm sure even olive oil would work...

Oh, and I heard the Ford stuff ain't what it used to be. Anybody heard this?
