  • Brake Fluid... Which one are you using?

Been searching the forum looking to see what everyone uses. I have tried Ford DOT3, and Smurf Blood.

Smurf blood seems to work good. Except when you get red flagged and you can't recirc the brake fluid. The pedal goes away a bit until you get another full lap in I find.

What is everyone using? Comments? (No need to post comments about Castrol SRF)

I'm using Motul RBF600, I haven't had any problems with the stuff, and I've done about half a dozen track days in my car without bleeding the brakes. pedal is still firm and consistent, haven't experienced any fade either.

We've used the Wilwood 570 Hi Temp for the past 4 years with no problems.

I'm using Project U -- it has the highest dry & wet boiling points of anything on the market next to Castrol SRF.

Expensive - around $70 for a 1L bottle. It's a bit cheaper than Castrol SRF though.

I think I might stick to ATE super Blue then... only 13 a bottle when you buy a whole case.

I'm a converted man since I started using ATE Super Blue. Two season on $20 worth of fluid and NO bleeding. That's 24 track days, 3 sets of brake pads, 3 sets of rotors, 30K of street driving, 15 auto-x and 4 sets of tires!

I might bleed it this winter :P

Like Hanif, I get a whole season of racing without bleeding.... includes over 40 track outings, 45,000km including winter miles!!!!

All with RBF600...clearly the best bang for the buck.

I'm a SuperBlue fan. The Motul fluid did funny things to my seals and when I would bleed the brakes there was this dark floating stuff that looked suspiciously like the rubber from my inner piston seals. This doesn't happen with the Super Blue. Besides it's real purrdy.

Three lapping days, 9 regional weekends - 23 races and not once did I need to bleed my brakes this year.

I flushed my brake lines with RBF600 at the beginning of the season and that was it. Even with the incredibly hot weekends we had this summer (especially at Shannonville where you really get to test brakes), my brakes held up just fine. Probably helped that I was running Hawk Blues too. Definitely cheaper to run RBF for a season than the Ford stuff.

                            Ford HD stuff.

                            Lots of fade at Dunnville.

We run Ford HD and have yet to have any problems related to the brake fluid ...except for it burning at the DDT.

We do bleed it fairly often though
