  • my cars suspension rating

a 2000 + golf is anywhere in the range of 50-55% suspension rating

all the civics in the spread sheet are also rated anywhere from 50-55, with some SIR/prelude models being in the 60's

now without going into too much detail yet... i find this a little hard to believe and would like to know why these two cars are rated near identical in their handling characterstics,

a stock double control arm front with independant rear and a genearly 300-500 lb lighter chasis is always gonna be worlds different than my camber-gaining front strusts and a solid rear beam........

          Re: my cars suspension rating

          just to reitterate

economicaly intended mac struts in the front (this isnt a M3 here) vs double control arms

solid rear beam in the back vs independant rear

65-35 weight distribution to... something much better

          overall higher center of CG

overall larger mass (to strip an Mk4 down to 2300 lb would take an enormous amount of effort)

so... yeah... whats up? i just wanna hear some justification.

            Hmmm.

"Vhat, you tink you've got problems?"

I have a 3263lb car with McPherson struts at all corners, 60/40 weight balance, a reputation for understeer, that lists at $32K US and has a handling rating equal to the Acura NSX, Porsche 911 Carrera S, BMW M3, C5 Corvette Coupe, AMG E55, Porsche Boxster S, etc.

The only thing CLOSE to it at the 80% level is the RX7 Turbo which is 400lbs lighter.

These aren't handling adjustments, they're achievement adjustments based on the records of drivers in similar cars in previous years versus their ill-achieving competition.

Given your history in this sport, you might just be the wonderful driver that put your car in it's current situation.

            I feel your pain.

Anyway, pardon my hijack. "Yeah, this Volkswagen suspension rating is bogus!!! It's the hand of Honda conspiracy, yeah!"

              Re: my cars suspension rating

from what i read in the other thread, according to Ninja Dave, "a whole bunch of stuff" goes into creating a cars suspension rating.

i just want to know what sort of discussion took place when placing VW's on the map.

which would you say handles better a stock 240 or a stock Z24?

hard to compare a RWD to a FWD

is the Z24 the V6 one? i would wager the 240 should handle better.

Nope the 2.4l four cylinder. it's a 97 with a suspension just like your golfs

Yes, but is an STi of RWD NSX or 911 caliber? Yes, it has nice brakes that will stand up to two laps of DDT pounding with stock pads.

Let's cross-post this in the Porsche forums and see what the Porschephiles say. From my experience in an older 911, the 911 has a LOT more stick and at least equal brakes.
