  • CHEAP! F1200 Project Car

It was not my intention to put this car up for sale but I have a big project coming in and need the space. I have been saving this to be my personal car but it needs to go.

It is a Zink Z-12 .... the ultimate small-mans FV .... it is tiny and slick. George Fizell and Roger Siebenaler were still winning Runoffs and Nationals by the dozen in their z-12s into the late 80s. This car has been in storage for 10 years and needs a winter's worth of refurbishing but is mainly complete except for fuel cell, engine, cooling system, and wheels. Chassis is nicely done and the body panels need paint but are good condition.

I want to move this quickly and have priced it accordingly. $2K U.S.OBO. I can also do a rebuild for the new owner but this is a perfect project for do-it-youself type who is short on cash.

          Where are you located?

I don't see an engine there does it come with one or not?

          thank you.

Here is a gallery of pics which show most of what there is to see.
The black #13 is a new Problemchild SM2 SCCA-spec FST car which is for sale for $15K U.S. The blue #30 is the CHEAP F1200 Project car posted for sale here for $2K U.S. (excluding the SCCA-spec wheels).

It needs an engine, fuel cell, wheels & tires, and some love!

                  Re: CHEAP! F1200 Project Car

The bolt pattern is the wide-5 wheel found on pre-70s VW Beetles. Wheels can be found in ads in Hot VWs magazine or at Diamond Racing Wheels.

I cataloged all (or most) of the parts I can provide to help put this beast together.

                  Zink Z-12
                  First raced in 1976
                  Total of 84 races
                  Updated with D-13 rear suspension
Shortbox transmission, Smoothie rear brake drums
Needs engine, fuel cell, and misc bits.
                  Hoosier 2005 tires, 4 sessions
                  Nice shifter with new u-joints
                  Price $2150. U.S.

But wait there is more ….

                  Engine case – used

Underneath flat-4 system, Used twice – then oiled – then stored indoors

                  Chassis Parts

Misc chassis hardware – 5 boxes
(brake shoes, wheel cylinders, link pins, wheel bearings – used)

Notes: These extra parts will go with the car for the full price of $2150. U.S. I also have a no axles-1.22-longbox for sale for $450 which I will add to the package for $2500. I cannot guarantee any part on the car or extra parts. Everything is “as is” and the car is priced accordingly …. That means CHEAP! The only damage I am aware of is …. a slight bow to the upper right frame bar where the wheel has hit it. The car is tight in the hip area but large in the belly/shoulder area. Minor mods to the front roll hoop would allow much larger drivers.
Car is in Niagara Falls, NY. Delivery is possible for a fee.

                    Re: CHEAP! F1200 Project Car

I guess what I'm really wondering is how much more money would it take beyond buying the chassis just to get it on the track?

The car is still for sale.
I would imagine that a serious do-it-yourself-er would spend several thousand dollars in parts.
