  • Napa "Chinese" rotors

I need to do a complete brake job on my 2003 Subaru Legacy daily driver. The rotors are under spec, and there is almost no pads left.

How crappy are the "Chinese" Brake rotors. Napa has them for 64 front, and 46 rear. That is cheap! Subaru dealership wants 144 front, and 117 rear, best I can do is 15% off at the dealership.

I've been trying to locate some Brembo Blanks, the P/N are 25646 and 25651. But it seems no one can locate any 25651 and the other requires 2 weeks order.

Should I go with the Napa Chinese rotors? splurge for the Subaru ones? Or find some raybestos/wagner ones at Cantire for around 100 bucks a rotor?

We get those rotors at 23 bucks a piece, approximately. Depending on the model year, 26 or 29 bucks.

If you're going Chinese rotors, you might as well go with authentic, cheap, knock offs with real chinese pop cans still visible on the rotors (just kidding).

Have you tried Carl @ Trac Racing for the Brembos?

I pay $22 (fronts) and $20 (rears) for mine.... on my 99impreza.... but that's under my account.... seems they quoted the list price for them...

there's even cheaper but our local store won't carry them... cause he feels they're not safe....

Yes he did, thanks for the plug no less.

We still have Brembos at the absolute best price. No way to compare to 'Chinese manufacturer" but you get for what you pay for!

            Thanks

A bought a pair of rear rotors for the Prelude for $18 (yes that's right 18 for the pair, not each) and had no problems with them warping or wearing quickly at all. The only downside was that they rusted quickly and looked ugly up close. I decided to replace the fronts with cheap rotors too and they were fine on street and slalom until I got rid of the car.

Yes, they work fine, they just don't last as long. The Brembos are pretty cheap though, so I stick with those.

Sorry about that Carl, Next time. The rx7 will need more parts soon. I went with Subaru Genuine.

Believe it or not, Subaru Genuine is not Subaru Genuine, it's their 6 star brand. The 6 Stars have a stamping on the inside that says "Made in Canada". In actuality, the raw castings are Chinese... (LOL, but yup), and the machining and sizing is done locally here, which qualifies as "made in Canada".

But they will do the job, and work well.
