Which is better TMP or GBR?

So now that we have run 2 weekends at Grand Bend and we already have experience at Toronto Motorsport Park (TMP), it would be good to know which track is more popular before we do any booking for next year and I suppose which track would you be more likely to come to. (Yes I know that there can be more influences on which events you run than just whether you like the track or not.)

Track wise I think I like TMP better, but as for areas to spend a weekend. GBM wins hands down.

Driving competitively at GBR feels really abusive on the car. TMP not as much.

TMP is the lesser of two long-drive evils for me.

Both are cool with me, I like each one for various reasons. I'm sure TMP would draw higher attendance numbers though...

GBR, more technical, more variety of corners, awesome carousel both directions. high speed sweepers, changing radius corners. The tight corners were a bit tight, but not that bad. Can be run both directions to change it up.

Paddock room was also great.

Downside was the drive; 1 hr to TMP for me, over 2 for GBR.

GBR was totally new to me and my severe lack of competitive times made that kind of obvious. I really didn't like the "technical" section near the timing (which is as Lloyd suggests really hard on tires and the rest of the car). OTOH I found the rest of the track far more interesting than TMP with a much wider variety of corners and we have the option of running both directions and different configurations. TMP doesn't have either of those options.

Yes, Pierre, even for me the drive was irritatingly long but when you get there Grand Bend is the far superior (if more expensive) place to stay. My wife might even come as long as she didn't have to look at a bunch of cars going around a race track.

Obviously I would go to either track but the upside of GBR, for me at least, outweighs the bad aspects. (Interestingly my drive home on Sunday was a full 1 hour shorter than getting there on Friday)

I wasn't at GBR this year, but last year there was an aroma throughout the weekend that was absolutely atrocious. Was that present this year? It was a different layout and faster than TMP, but my vote would go to TMP.

No odour. I guess the onions don't start pickling until September.

Summer weekends are the only time to do Grand Bend.


I'd suggest that we don't say either/or. Let's do both!

For me it's also GBR all the way.

But has to be in the summer.

Great weekend away.
Beautiful area.
Good restaurants.
Track - not my fave but neither is TMP.

TMP is just a drive to the track, compete and drive home. Nothing special.

GBR I look forward to the whole weekend. And I'm finally learning the track a bit. (would like a faster configuration though)

Just to expand the discussion, how about another trip to Calabogie! An awesome and intriguing track that many newer members have never driven.

And I'm glad the aroma wasn't present at GBR.

Personally, I really enjoyed GBR.

But, I do drive a Miata.

Perhaps it'd be more balanced if we the technical track one day and a higher speed configuration on the other.

Not a big fan of TMP personally.

PS, 'bogie is awesome.

Would they be tolerant of the OTA track camping party?

ditto. I liked the technical config and the wide runoffs.

Only downfall was the wait for planes to land, but no big deal at the end of the day.
